The King Follett Discourse in the Light of Ancient and Medieval Jewish and Christian Beliefs, a FAIR conference talk given by Matthew Roper, in behalf of John Tvedtnes.
Perhaps none of the prophet Joseph Smith's sermons has been the subject of as much study and debate as the King Follett discourse, delivered 6 April 1844 in Nauvoo, less than three months before the prophet's murder in Carthage. In this discourse, the prophet introduced a number of new ideas, all related to the creation of the earth and man's origin and destiny.
John Tvedtnes shows that these ideas have ancient origins in both Jewish, and Christian texts.

  • Amen.

  • Celestial or bust!

  • There is no such thing as a state of non existence. If you exist now, you always have, and always will. The only variable, is what state did you, are you, or will you exist in.

  • It's only logical to see that all things which exist, have always existed, in one state or another. Nothing can come into existence in and of itself from a state of non existence. The building blocks of all things have always existed, or the they simply would not be, because they never were to begin with. Nor would they be in whatever form they are now in, once were, or ever will be.
