Skin speaks here about her contribution to an album for Survival International, the human rights organization for tribal peoples.

Bruce Parry, star of the BBC series Tribe and the forthcoming Amazon, has teamed up with some of the music worlds biggest names to create a fundraising album for Survival.

Musicians on the album also include KT Tunstall, will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas), Johnny Borrell (Razorlight), Tom Baxter, Mystery Jets, Jason Mraz, Yusuf Islam, Hot Chip, the Go! Team and Mike Oldfield.

In addition, Guy Berryman from Coldplay, Jonas from MEW and Magne from A-ha have formed a new band specially for the CD called Apparatjik, and recorded a track that will also be used for the end credits of Amazon.

Every track on the album is exclusive, and has been written especially for the project.

The first section of songs is titled Amazon and features songs inspired by Bruce Parrys new series of that name, to be shown on BBC2 in September.

The second section of songs, entitled Tribe, is a collection of dance/experimental songs which all use samples of music Bruce recorded with the tribal people he lived with during the making of his hugely popular BBC show.

  • roflmao... let's evaluate... no tax... free and evective medicines litteraly growing on the trees around them... no AIDS... no major war... no guilt.. no demoralising work pattern... sure some of the aspects of their lives may be hard, I like hard work, helps me sleep at night, shame that many in the west are terrified of hard work, so waht if they don't have cars.. not much use with trees in the way, who needs a TV when the actor lives in your community... please think harder before you comment

  • Yes let them be. That is one of the missions of survival. to stop westernisation of tribal culture.

They don't need to read, they don't need modernisation, they are surviving in the world the same way they have for generations. I'm sure tribal cultures have THEIR OWN stories to teach them morality, right and wrong. They don't need the bible. They will be happy left alone.

These people's survival actually depends on us, the western world, leaving them alone to live their own lives.

  • Thank you! Beautiful!

  • @sunbirdshaman ; well said

  • I actually wish I was born into their way of living. I can only imagine how wholesome it is compared to this life I'm living.

Think of it, I'm watching how to live more wholesome and healthier on a plastic computer in an off-gassing house with few trees around me. Sick irony, huh?

Western civilization in and of itself is not and can never be sustainable. It requires resources (nonliving things that were once living) rather than being amongst the community of life on earth

  • yet again yuo contradict your own original statement. but aye let's drop it. peace out, the more time we argue they less we are helping.

  • I dont care if they change and evolve with us or not...Their way is simple and uncomplicated ...let them be...Let it be.

They shouldnt be forced to live any certain way...no one should ..unless they are doing cruel inhumane things...This story struck a nerve in me but Im over it...

  • a method employed by dominating societies for about 2000 years now, as the romans enforced christianinty on the celts, tuets and other tribes, and then, hundreds of years later the broken remnants of those people did the say to the australian aboriginies, native americans etc etc etc... not realy the best solution.

  • But your comment "I realy don't care about them"?... harsh, unneccesary and rather pathetic to be honest you obvisouly DO care otherwise you would not have bothered posting in the first place, it's just that noone agrees with your method of care..

  • wow self centred! who said anything about the "your" being directed at you? and as to your "I would let them be"... this argument started when you insited that they needed to be 'taught', basically saying that they were unfit to survive, that they did not already know, and that the bible was the root to their... for want of a better world... salvation. You were not talking about leaving them be then. Oh well.

  • give them the book that started your doom... My Doom? WTF are you talking about???

To be honest I would just let them be...Carry on as they do...I really dont care about them if they can take care of themselves...Good for them...
