Mercury crosses the face of the Sun only a handful of times every century. This rare video captures Mercury being followed by a couple of Jets also crossing the face of the sun. Shot in Minnesota by Brett Ohnstad and Ben Huset

  • "Mercury crosses the face of the Sun only a handful of times every century"

    THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE.

  • Transits of Mercury with respect to Earth occur about 13 or 14 times per century Sounds like a handful each century to me. Venus transits even less with about 2 per century.

  • i wanted to add!, geez man this mercury , seems really small with our star in the back! It must be boiling there! :o)

  • This is the most amazing sun video i saw through a telescope! Awsome work!

  • Yeah, you're right

The circumstances to not re-occur each year because Earth and mercury are on orbits that are tilted with respect to each other

  • Very nice video! I know we're astronomers, and science is the goal, but perhaps a little music during the show would be a nice addition :-) The jets were cool.

  • ufo at 2:47 is kinda neat
