I was lucky enough to get an aerobatic flight with Nigel Arnott at the Bundaberg Gliding Club open day on the weekend (20/06/2010). Nigel and Mick towed the Fox all the way from Boonah with a Super Cub!

This is just the aerobatic portion of the flight, from tow release to landing. I even got to fly the aerotow part of the flight myself :-)

If you've never done aerobatics in a glider, you're missing out on some seriously crazy fun......go out and do it as soon as you can!

A huge thank you has to go to Nigel and Mick for fitting in so many flights over the weekend. You guys are champions!

Note: The odd 'duck call' kinda noise you hear from time to time is the mylar safety tape I put over the top of the camera, just in case the mounting base failed. In certain airflow conditions it apparently vibrated rapidly and created the wierd sound you can hear.

Camera was a (borrowed, thanks Dave!) HeroCam HD and was shooting in 1080p 30fps resolution.

  • No idea how many Gs we were pulling, but the fox is rated to +9/-6 (single) and +7/-5 (dual). I *can* tell you I was very glad I'd done the shoulder straps up nice and tight though!

  • was that an outside loop? !!!!

  • @petercstephenson It sure was :-)

  • @mrbonk

my shoulders just ache thinking about it! :-)

  • @petercstephenson Nah, the harness is pretty well padded in the fox. I was too busy enjoying the ride to notice anyway :-)

  • How cool was that..... watching that was like reliving the ride all over. Great stuff Brenton.

  • @gruntly0007 I know.....I'm *still* buzzing!

  • Excellent video, top marks.

  • What G rating does this glider have? The single engine RAA Foxbat I fly is rated to +4/-2, tested to +6/-3. I assume this glider would be much higher? How many G's do you pull in manouvres like these, especially that outside loop?

  • What G rating does this glider have?? I know the single engine RAA aircraft I fly often is rated to +6/-4 or something similar, this must be much much higher?

  • What's up with the backwind landing? :)
