Who would be dumb enough to assume mines never close down? That mines don't have negative effects on workers, on communities and on the environment, when they open, while they operate and long after they are closed. Some things need conservative activism, like conserving the environment, conserving right to live without churning people's homelands into an industrial wasteland, conserving towns and social structures so people can live healthy, happy lives. Being a conservative is a good thing.
