This video was filmed in Port Renfrew, British Columbia. It was filmed the evening before and the morning of the day that I began hiking the West Coast Trail again this past summer. The forest on the far side of the water would be the first stretch of the trail that we would hike (km 75 - km 70). Our first campsite, Thrasher Cove, is visible in the third scene.

The area had been rather dry in the weeks before our hike, and the temperatures were incredibly high for the Island (~35C). But just before we reached the island for the hike they were receiving a lot of rain. This is typical for the area - being a temperate rain forest and all.

The rain the night before the hike was quite intense. It sounded like hail pelting the yerts were staying in. However, on the morning of the hike the rain cleared, and there wasn't any significant rain the rest of the hike.

This was filmed on August 10-11, 2009 at 100x real time.

  • this is so peaceful, we are certainly blessed to live in this amazingly beautiful province!

  • @jenniferpedraza Thanks!

  • This time lapse was shot on the deck of a yurt at Soule Creek Lodge. I get to look at that changing view everyday. We are blessed. Thnx, great!!

  • Thanks! That's exactly where it was filmed. It's from the yurt closest to the approach road. I just set up the camera on the railing of the deck.

  • Excellent scenes with very good atmosphere. I particularly like from 1:25. Are they boats you can see moving along the water near the trees?

  • Thanks! This is one of my favorite places in the world (Vancouver Island); it has such a mystical quality - no pun intended. :)

Those are small fishing boats returning to port after going for salmon off shore. This was filmed in August when the salmon run is still on. Many people come to Port Renfrew just for the fishing. The little jog that they do is at the mouth of the Gordon River shortly before the marina, and right by the trailhead for the West Coast Trail.

  • i live on Vancouver island :)

  • Thanks! Vancouver Island is a very special place. It has a feel all of its own. I highly recommend seeing it. :)

  • Thanks. The weather on the west coast is so different than here on the prairies. It's so close to the ground in general, and the trees seem to affect the clouds alot too.

  • Very very cool to watch how the water and land affected the clouds.
