well the lip comment is a red herring - nowhere in the world does lipo get covered by socialised medicine.
Australia has had socialised medicine since the 70s, and we're not remotely bankrupt. The US spends more on healthcare as % of GDP than almost anywhere in the devoloped world, with worse results.

I think in 50 years time people will view this in the same way as people today view the hysterical arguments in favour of segregation: loud, opinionated, but based on dogma rather than any real logic or research.
I'm very glad that I have access to socialised healthcare - and as an exception to the rule, it actually saves me money.

@theREALshafan Actually, it's based on the "dogma" of self-ownership, and the "hysterical argument" that none of us has the right to initiate force (including theft: taking without permission) against another. The logic is that you don't get to tell other people what to do with their property. If you DO, then it's really YOUR property, isn't it...?
