@puppylinuxworld i think its a hardware issue, i had no issues with package manager downloading or installing firefox or anything in saluki 013, but i think there was issues with the package manager,
personally i think so far the best release is 014 (current version is 018) but the later releases have had issues with unloading sfs files and such,
i hear saluki is planned to goto release @ version 020 but you never know
in my personal opinion saluki is the best version of puppy linux avaliable

I agree, very nice indeed, Apart from the screen wallpapers, which are a bit too "Pokemon" for me,
NOTE: if you wish to write to a Windows NTFS partition, create the Puppy save file in Ext3 format, currently Ext4 doesn't allow write to NTFS.
My tip for software to install from the PPM:
Firefox plus the Flash installer
GoggleMM.
For additional functionality add Java, LibreOffice, AdobePDF, Skype... as SFS modules.

No problem, regarding the NTFS issue, the above info is innacurate. The problem related to automounting an NTFS drive. Under 013 the FS was automounted read only, essentially the safest option. This was easy to solve, simply by unmounting, remounting the drive. Disregard the savefile format suggestion.
From 017 onwards the issue has not occured.

@Wolffallen, I agree, by far the best. I've dropped Xubuntu and adopted Saluki for my work laptop.
