Whats so special about the game Ultimate Peace Frisbee" that can bring Israeli and Arab children together for five whole days? Our Israeli correspondents visited the game in Tel-Aviv to find the answer.
Ultimate Frisbee is a simple game with a simple language.
Playing the game builds a partnership from the cooperation among the players, and by the end of the game a message of peace has been created.
A lot of thought has been put into the idea of bringing the game to the Middle East, in hope that it will sow the first seeds of peace in the area.
[Dr. David Barkan, Expert on Social Change]:
"Ultimate" is a game that is based on sportsmanship. It's a game of a competition, true and we do play to win, but winning never supersedes good sportsmanship and working together. We'd like to have commemoratory across teams and that's as important as winning a game."
In spite of the ongoing conflict between Jews and Arabs, the parents arent giving up but are taking part in the process instead.
The hope that this simple game will lead to a peaceful way of living for everyone.
[Dr. David Barkan, Expert on social change]:
I have to say just the fact that they are here today together on the same field, takes tremendous courage."
Unlike soccer, where violence occasionally occurs, Frisbee is a non-violent game and there are no judges.
The game is all fun, which makes it an ideal game for creating peace and fraternity.
[Engineer Dory Yaniv, Coach]:
"I truly believe that Frisbee makes you a better person. If some of these kids are gonna play together they are gonna meet when they are older and they'll remember these games, these tournaments, I am sure it will contribute to peace."
[Participant in the Game]:
"Israeli children and Palestinian children, that's very goodand I want to be one, Israel and Palestine one."
Some of the participants are coming from the Israeli city of Sderot, which has been bombarded with Kassam rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists these past several years.
This may be an indication of positive going on the peoples minds.
[Israeli Girl, Sderot]:
"I want to be together with Palestinian Kids. I think that children are the ones who can advance peace and the next generation will be fine because now we are together."
One thing is certain this event today has brought a much-needed message of co-operation and fraternity.
