Just got back from the hospital. I'm pretty drugged up but i hope it makes some sense. Should give you an idea of what its like after surgery.

**Update**
So basically after my first surgery the bar flipped after 1 month and I had to have it repositioned. A month after repositioning the bar flipped again. So they took it out. I now have pectus again, except with 2 scars in my side. This is a really simple explanation for something that basically ruined 4 months of my life check the comments for more details. The reason it flipped was because when they shaped the bar in the operating room and put it in, it wasnt exactly flush against my sternum, so after time the pressure between the bar and my sternum caused it to flip over a period of a few days. I'm having another surgery in the summer in Norfolk VA, and they are putting 2 bars in this time. Hopefully this will be the last surgery..?

  • I think I'm going to be having this done later this year, I'm really scared about waking up after the surgery .. what's the pain like ?

  • @ModemPictures It really isnt that bad, i guess it depends on the individual..you're just really out of it, the worst pain is usually after they take you off major pain meds, then it becomes really uncomfortable and the only relief youll have is the first 90 minutes after you take your medicine.

  • I heard you have to replace the bar every two to three years, so does that mean surgery every 2-3 years...... I hope it's not true. I have it but I haven't really decided on when to have the surgery

  • @animeblaster378 haha, no its not true. You should only have to have surgery twice, one surgery to put the bar(s) in, and one to take them out, which is usually after 2-3 years.

  • i know there are 2 procedures for p.e i have a pretty severe case can the nuss procedure work for all cases or will it only work on some cases?

  • @xIReliable There is the ravitch and nuss procedure. As far as i know the nuss can be used on any severity. But its really the doctors call as to what they think is best for you.

  • does it limit your physical activities?

  • @ModemPictures the pain is manageable. i had a bad reaction to the pain meds which caused me to vomit. throwing up hurt like hell bc your sternum and ribs are cracked and broken somewhat. i was walking on day 2 post op

  • @ModemPictures hey bro I just had got my Nuss in August and I had no pain at all until they took the epidural out. I don't want to scare you or anything but it was the worst pain of my life. But it was totally worth it!!! I didn't know that I could get morphine at the time but I suggest you ask for it after they take the epidural out. And after that their was not much pain besides when I sneezed and made any quick jerking motions. It really isn't bad at all thought!

  • @badmojo95

Yes tho it doesn't hurt but i can feel the heart struggling to push...

after I sit back to fix it my heart goes into rapid heart beats same with you?

  • @alisa4828

I have doctors tell me the same think.. But when I sit up in certain postion my chest pushes on my heart.. then when I fix it causes rapid heart beat,

  • Had mine done age 13 at great ormand street. failed due to an infection when the bar was put in. Now aged 20 thinking of doing it again, 100 x more painful than a tattoo or being stabbed.

  • @Travino

Clearly you have never had surgery. Ofcourse he sounds fucking out of it. It's his first day out of hospital and considering he had surgery on his chest, it clearly causes him alot of pain to talk and move. How old are you? 5 or 10?

  • I'm 17 years old and i am getting this done the 14th. I'm outta my fucking mind with fear! xD

  • Oops it's suppose 2 b @badmojo95

  • @badmojo97 same here I have it nd I cnt run for five minutes with out having pain in my chest and lack of air I also have a crappy dr. Who says it doesn't affect anything so my parents wnt do anything about it

  • damn you sound/look kind of out of it.

  • nearly as bad as mine. Hopefully you'll respond to the message I'm about to send you.

  • Im a couple of days out of the hospital. Feeling great about my chest now. Not so great in the health department. The pain is pretty bad. But let me tell you, my hole was much worse then yours, if I could link it to you I would, perhaps a message? Yes, I do think I will send one out. Your surgery went excellent my friend, I'm surprised you're not in as much pain as I was on the first day out.

I have a few questions regarding yours just to confirm some about mine, I've never met someone with one

  • I have a question. I got this done about a month and a half ago and I still can not sleep in a bed yet. I have tried and I get really tense and cannot get out of the bed because of the pain. I was wondering how long it took for you to be able to sleep completely flat on your back? I've been sleeping in a recliner this whole time and its really uncomfortable.

  • @macmula11 cause u had a different surgery

  • you guys are lucky i had this done like 5 or 6 years ago and my scar goes all the way across the chest instead of just on the side...

  • @wesizfresh no they say to get it earlist as possible the younger the better

  • @ModemPictures 110% worth it id do it again in a heart beat

  • I see that were ur hole were u have no mucles.... did the doctor say anything about being able to work up the mucle attachments there so the mucles will go closer to the chest bone ? reply plz :P

  • @xIReliable Hey !! I have P.E and Im getting operated in like a month and a half...Im not really scared about waking up after, I WAS but as long as Im gonna get rid of this " hole " than Ill deal with the pain... Im getting the ravitch procedure done because I compete in motocross....With the ravitch procedure it only takes 1 year to completely start doing hard stuff...With the nuss p. It takes about 2 - 3 years !! Ravitch is way better plus.

  • I am 16 should I wait till I stop growing to get the surgery?

  • @ursian1 Thank you for answering, would you say the surgery is worth it .. and how long after the surgery could you continue or begin exercising.

  • um they actually do stick it up your dick. Hate to break it to you.
