At www.hopscotchguitar.com I have been experimenting games as a format for teaching guitar to increasingly younger ( or young-at-heart) audiences. This approach has been influenced by Kodaly and Suzuki principles. The intention is to make learning implicit but also, for me, to hand control over to the kids so they have ownership of their learning. There is evidence of this as the sequence of videos (6) develops.
This first game is to reinforce how to sit "properly" (read comfortably) with a guitar. Played like musical chairs; when the music stops go to the nearest guitar and sit as instructed -off video. No chairs are removed on successive rounds.
For me sitting comfortably involves all the apparatus in the learning space and so requires familiarisation with the chair, footstool, guitar stand (droids!) and music stand positioning within the learning space.
Your comments are appreciated as is serious discussion of ideas associated with effective learning and teaching. My intention is to develop a teaching pack of my ideas for those interested in working with young learners.
