some great artists on these lists. fine you dont like DT, doesnt mean they dont have any talent as your implying.

your comments read along the lines of anyone who likes DT is a fanboy, whats that make you, and anti-fanboy.

DT are one of my favourite bands, and as a result of them I'm looking for more artists that I like, adagio, symphony X, king crimson etc.

if you want to spout venom about fanboys and such, point your spite at dragonforce, who's fans seem to think their gods......

I am not a huge Dream Theater Fan but overated is one thing they are not. As far as drummers go I really only like two and that's Neil Pert and Mike Portnoy.

Cynic, what a band!, I wish I had their records, I only have them on Mp3... In relation to the debate about if DT sucks or if they're overrated, well, I think they are not overrated because they were one of a few bands that took up the torch of progressive music (focusing on Metal) at its moment (as Fates Warning, not as Queensrÿche, at least for me) and they bring back the style to music scene again, that's a fact!.

The only problem I have with prog is that -despite it being my favorite genre- most of the vocalists in prog bands are either too whiny or too annoying for my tastes. I think bands like Andromeda, Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Rush have great vocals but there are a LOT of prog bands who have fantastic instrumentalists but the vocalists really kill great songs in my opinion.

@adrian30020 WTF. Petrucci is not one of the best players? John Petrucci, Jason Becker, Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Michael Romeo, Vinnie Moore, Shawn Lane, Malmsteen are the best guitarists in their style, for metal!!

while I agree Dream Theater is grossly overated, they're still really awesome, but not at the top of my list for prog artists
