  • @americangirlfriend1 They caves he used are massive, so he could travel from community to community without seeing the light of day.. Former gold and coal miners left a lot of "highways" for Billy.

  • @150rboy Garret could have got him but it was a dark room and there is speculation that it could have been someone else by mistake. I do not believe if a body was exhumed from the Ft. Stanton Grave the dna would indicate it was Billy.. Billy was pretty unique for his day. He was young and quite literate. Being able to read and write would give him the opportunity to assume another identity which could have even resulted in applying for a passport. to travel.

  • @bornrider7 There is a statewide move to have his remains exhumed subject to a DNA test. Naturally the locals fight this to protect their tourism industry.

  • @bornrider7 There is some speculation whether it was Billy that was shot. In those days they couldn't circulate a photo fast enough nor accurately enough to be able to match the two. There is also a grave marking for him in either an Irish or English cemetery. Did he make it out of the country?.

  • Yes, Billy looks slightly impaired, doesn't he?

  • Capitan is a quaint little town and how spectacular is the drive north from Ruidoso to Capitan on Hwy 48. Spectacular view of the Capitan Gap and the stomping grounds for Smokey Bear. Great pizza place there too.

  • Actually the legend started in Old Mesilla where billy worked at the La Posta restaurant as a dishwasher.

  • @americangirlfriend1 Well, it wasn't a very good hiding cave if they knew it was his hiding cave now was it? :P

  • i have seen one of his hiding caves!!!!!

  • @bornrider7 mabey but a photo was taken of his body the day after he died.

  • @cdrhunt I always remember associating him with Emilio Estevez and I remember the first time as a kid I seen THAT pic and his true looks and I was frightened. He almost looked deformed or something Ive seen other pics where he looks rather normal so maybe he was just impaired. Opium, peyote, and/or a lot of bourbon.
