Homemade Treadle Wood Lathe

This is my homemade Treadle Wood Lathe. No Electricity needed. I bought the Old Lathe for 25 bucks and cleaned it up. Added a frame to mount it too and a flywheel and crank shaft. Works great.

Good call on the electric free lathe! Just

think of the enormous amount of fossil

fuel, not to mention the carbon footprint

that went into your restoration projects supplies!

Well hmm. Good point. My car does run on vegetable oil so reduced the carbon footprint of the transportation on my part. We can only do so much. The lathe was rusted badly and needed to be sanded and painted. I did not have any paint so I went to get some. I did look around for some used lumber and after finding nothing that suited the job I had to buy some. It happens. Thank you for you comment.

Clever use of materials.

I like the flywheel type better than a spring pole type. Much smoother action.

I also liked having a unsecured pedal. You were able to move it to suit your stance.
