well, in order to gain a doctorate degree, you have to do a very large investigation project called "thesis". When you finish your thesis, you need to explain it and defend it in front of a select board of education. Basically, you explain your investigation and the results of it. At the end, the board of education as well as the people present can ask you questions about the presentations. Teachers ask you so they can test how much knowledge of the topic you have :)

@BCUboi By the time you get to this finalstage you already know more about your topic than the professors do. You just answer their questions and concerns. I am impressed at anyone who can do this in a *foreign language* like this student...

@TKostovska - I agree authoring a PhD is more complicated. Conversely I think it is great that this person put his defence on line - it is a good way to share information and the process of getting a PhD - i am just curious why do you think it is ridiculous?
