  • Hmmm... I get the impression you may be over-caffeinated...

Anyway, the video is actually called "Set Up Wippien VPN"; not "How to Use VPN".

But since you asked so "politely..."

Once you've got the VPN client running and your friends also have the same VPN client running, it makes it appear to both PCs like you're connected on a local area network (LAN) instead of the Internet.

That means you can do the same things as if your PCs were connected on a LAN.

  • For example, you could both run a LAN capable game, with one hosting and the other should be able to see and join the LAN game (which is actually connected via the VPN).

So you run the VPN client; your friends also run the same VPN client and once you've connected you do NOTHING ELSE with the VPN. It just runs in the background.

In Wippien the other users you're connected to show up in the "General" area with black IPs.

  • BUT YOU NEED TO INVITE/ACCEPT CONNECTIONS FROM YOUR FRIENDS IN ORDER FOR THE VPN TO DO ANYTHING!

There is no way to "browse" for other users; you have to know the Wippien ID/Jabber ID of the person you want to connect to with the VPN client and send a connection request via "Add Contact".

If you don't accept or invite or otherwise add contacts you won't be connected to anyone and the VPN will be useless!

The video shows how to send an invite at 5:50.

  • im stuck at 1:33...what the fuck program want from me?

  • I'm assuming you're stuck at the jabber login screen.

You first need to pick one of the free jabber servers. I'm using jabber(dot)org. There is a list of public/free servers at jabber(dot)org.

You create a jabber nickname and then add an at sign and the jabber server name. It will look like an email address ([nickname](@)jabber(dot)org).

Then type in a password. It doesn't say there is a restriction, but it only allows numbers and letters in the password.

  • Is there a way to do this with Windows 7?

  • be careful using route -f,it just fucked my whole network and am now rebuilding manually

  • thx

  • i try to pinging and he say: ''Request timed out'' what can i do?

  • I just installed wippien for XP, and it does not automatically fill in the IP address information under network places. Plus, you never did explain why or the purpose behind setting the static ip, as well as setting the metric to1500. It's nice to know why we are doing what we are doing. Thanks for what is otherwise a good tutorial. - Versatile

  • I just want to use this to surf the web, is this possible?

  • @scorch0902 Yes and it's great. Much more fun playing with frends instead of laggers/tappers/hackers/cryers and god knows what other crap these stupid kids do these days in normal online games

  • so and with that am able to play in lan over the internet?

  • Also check or website for some screens and ingame recordings. It is mostly dutch at the moment but it is easey to find the videos and screens.
