http://www.relationship-makeover.com The subject of dissociation and dissociative identity disorder in terms of how people cope with life is quite broad and often misunderstood by general public. In this video I describe how dissociation might begin, how it becomes a necessary escape and how it becomes a hindrance to personal growth.

  • I always thought this was the same explanation for schizophrenia in that the person's brain can't cope with the real world around it so it creates this fantasy for it to be able to live in

  • @AnAnonymousStudent yes. Dissociative disorder not otherwise specified is when you exhibit traits of full blown disociative identity disorder and Post Truamatic stress Disorder....DD-NOS falls in the middle. It is a result of continual traumatic abuse that a child goes through. It is an adaptive protection technique that becomes maladjusted after the abuse is over. A therapist is usually needed to cope and change. I know because I have been treating my DD-NOS for the last three years.

  • DONT TELL !

i must be so well repressed- i function normal-but i avoid stress such as jobs-i get bored- i try different styles of roles- but hospital records show at 13 mos old i was operated on for venereal infection and had blood transfusion for infected blood-its my aunt who insisted i go to hospital after she changed my diaper and saw- only remember a recurrent dream as baby where my mother head is spinning and she s crying-was that a memory of being put under b4surgery?2 siblng suicides

  • This is so trippy.

My boyfriend says he knows someone who is bi-polar. I don't know. The people he knows are so messed up that it's quite likely..

  • Can someone be dissociative without obviously transitioning from one personality to another? I'm confused about where the line is between a person just exhibiting the normal multitude of dimensions and roles that all people have, and when they have a disorder that is causing problems. I think someone close to me might have DID, she exhibits extremely different sides of herself sometimes, but she doesn't behave as if these are distinct personalities that she changes between.

  • thanks for sharing a positive light on DID. I have DID and very much appreciated watching your video. Thank you for sharing.
