COURTENAY - Wisps of toxic smoke are lingering over the Comox Valley tonight after a massive fire that destroyed a local landmark.
Emergency responders rushed to the former Buckerfield's building just after 6pm last night after the building burst into flames.
The building was home to a hydroponics store that stocked flammable and combustible chemicals and fertilizers.
Those served as fuel for the flames and sent a thick cloud of smoke billowing into the air. The smoke and flames were so intense, they sent the fire chief to hospital.
