I had a similar incident. I was driving there and was pulled over. After much discussion and tears they let me go after we paid them $45.
Numerous bikes passed by us with 3 persons and no helmets. It was the fact that we were being treated different from the other bike that were on the street and passing through the checkpoint. The only difference with our bike was that it carried 2 white Americans, while other bikes carried 3 Liberians.

It's sad, isn't it lcbrooksful. It seemed that whenever we traveled, whether by taxi or by motorbike, we were hassled. We watched as our taxi driver would get money ready for the bribe at every town along the way.
