"I caught a glimpse of Lt. Sasi, his jaw hung open in astonishment". Sakai continued "We were being attacked, I felt man, this is going to be some fight". "Our Zeroes scattered wildly, nothing like this had ever happened before". "All of us failed to score a hit, the bomber rolled & soared up & down in violent maneuvers with the top gunner firing steadily at us". The dogfight continued on for a solid 10 minutes before Sakai finally was able to bring the Hudson down. He was most impressed.

"I recommend that pilot officer Warren F Cowen be posthumously awarded your countrys highest commendation. I have encountered many brave pilots in my life but Warren F Cowen stands alone" This is a request Saburo Sakai asked of the Austrailian gov't. after the war. On 9 July '42, Sakai & 8 other Zeroes spotted a Lockheed Hudson in the distance & gave chase. Just as he was in firing range the Hudson did a sharp 180 & came at them "Every forward gun in the Hudson opened up in a withering barrage"

This is by far my favorite WW2 twin engine bomber. WHERE IS OUR 1/32 PLASTIC OR RESIN MODEL?
great video, but I'm pretty sure the Hudson was the first American built aircraft to score a kill, not the first RAF one

According to Wikipedia: On 8 October 1939, over Jutland, a Hudson became the first RAF aircraft to shoot down a German aircraft. (The accolade of the first British aircraft to shoot down a German plane went to the Blackburn Skua of the Fleet Air Arm on 26 September 1939.)
