May I ask how the arm was broken? We use closet rods and nobody has gotten hurt. We might switch to the foam tips. It seems just as fun and much safer.
@Fourmalletz That's a crying shame, IMO. The SCA, of all places, should be supporting this kind of equestrian sport. Of COURSE it's dangerous. Have the riders sign waivers, let them use better gear, similar to ren faires, and promote the knightly arts as they SHOULD be. It just seems ridiculous that hardly any SCA knights have ever even been on a horse. Basic equestrian competency should be a REQUIREMENT for knighthood.

We don't do it anymore because the pool-noodle-and-cardboard-tube lances broke somebody's arm.
