I won't speak on all of hip-hop because there is surely poorly-crafted hip-hop, songs that are misguided and neither uplift nor accurately portray reality. That is the reflection of America, in all it's imperfection and poetry.

"Thug life" is not ignorance and it is not even necessarily violent. "Thug life" is the opposite of gang life, which is to surround yourself with people who will not motivate you because you are afraid of failing.
