  • Have you ever looked at someone with lust? The Bible says that if someone hates another person they are a murderer (I John 3:15). Have you ever hated anyone? If you have answered, Yes, to the previous questions, then you have admitted that you are a liar, a thief, a blasphemer, an adulterer and a murderer and we’ve only looked at 4 of the 10 Commandments. If God were to judge you by this standard would you be innocent or guilty? You know you are guilty and deserving of an eternity in Hell.

  • Jesus Christ came to earth and died a criminal’s death not because He had broken the Law, but because we had. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. What should you do? Repent, turn from your sins & put your complete faith in Jesus Christ as your Savoir and Lord. You may die today, in your sin. Is there any reason why you would not accept God’s gift? More info at living waters website with true & false conversion audio sermon. God Bless!

  • Shame on you Patty ,you brought tears to this old boys eyes!!, Beautiful, no1 has ever done it better

  • No one seems to have noticed that this song is an old hymn. Thus, the lyrics do not reflect on Patty Griffin's songwriting skills. This hymn was written long before she was born. I don't have an informed opinion on her skills, but I think it's important to base your opinion on accurate information.

  • Love the too much mumbo jumbo comment. Wish gospel had never been invented I suppose? Wouldn`t have left us with much`cept Gaga and that other funny little Justin guy.

  • @guitardds I prefer Patty Griffin.

  • @dfarmbrough You are right. I was being too harsh in my opinion. It is spiritually uplifting.

  • @theart1rm I don't mind repetition for emphasis, which is what I think is done in this case. However I was complimenting the tune, the singing and playing rather than the lyric. In fairness, the lyric is in the rather naive style of American folk hymns - one stage removed from negro spirituals, and "of their time". I like this simplicity and think it works with this tune.

  • Now that's not to say that Patty, Buddy, EmmyLou, Julie, Dolly haven't either. But Richard is just the best. If you want a song that people will listen to, cherrish, & love (not to mention be a hit) Richard Marx is the person you need to call on to write you a song. And speaking of Dolly she has written over 3000 songs, some good, some bad, some diddy's (her words, not mine) her children as she calls them, is also a great songwriter. My recent discovery Darren Wharton (Dare) great songwriter too
