"The Dentist Of Jaipur"

New teeth, dentures or extractions not a problem at all for Pushkar and his old master Pyara Singh. They treat their patients in front of the train station of Jaipur, on the sidewalk under the pure sky. The short film of filmmaker Falk Peplinski, who has been living in India for three years, is an ironical image-clip for a dentist of its own kind and therefore a homage to the incredibleness of the Indian everyday life. The film had a big success at fimfestivals in 2006 and 2007.

India, 2006 / director & editor: Falk Peplinski, photography: Karsten Hohmann, sound: Valson P.D., producer : Meera Menezes

  • These people are use to such unsanitary conditions, they are use to it, it's like "make do with you have to work with". They don't know what it's like have "clean" anything, so they make do. And with a toothache, everybody going to do something to get relief, this is all they can afford. Desperate people do desperate things. We don't know all the gross things that go on over there (and don't want to know).

  • @danielle88331 @danielle88331 - u wont believe , but india has got thousands of charitable hospitals and institutes , where all dental treatments are done free of cost, worth millions of dollars every year.. less priviledged in our society are treated wid same standards and hygiene as more privileged does.. i wud insisit u to visit my clinic's video....

  • You want flies with that?

  • I guess you have a choice - death by tooth and gum disease, or death by the lack of hygiene on the dentist and his tools! YIKES!

  • Its good for the poor people ,who can't affort the expeneive fee

  • @linker08 I understand that this isnt the best example of what India has to offer, I was saying no matter where this is from, the talent of these men to make quick adjustments for citizens in pain is amazing. If it wasnt for them, less privileged citizens would have to suffer and go without any care at all. I dont think the video was made for malicious reasons by any means, and most viewers certainly won't assume that this is the only sort of dental care available in India.

  • @linker08 1st of all, I'm not a dude, thank you. I'm a dudette. ;-) And 10000 times better then our dentist... that must be hardly an underestimation WHAHAHHAHAHA.... funny... I'm scared for my dentist but this looks far more scarier you must agree. This is real life for lots of Indian people that's what I ment, no hard feelings here. Peace out!

  • @Judith1309 dude u hvnt seen real india.. indian dentistry is 10000 times far more better than ur country's dentistry , and indian medical field is renowned for their BEST DOCTORS..

  • @danielle88331 i am an indian dentist and i know where indian dentistry is going , at certain levels its nw progressing more than american and european dentistry , i was highly disappointed when i saw this video , and yes this is not some thing to take proud of.. these kinda people are everywhere in the world.. i am always really moved , when americans or europeans try to discourage indian medical sciences, infact indian doctors are THE BEST doctors of world..
