Very nostalgic. I remember even now.

Excellent! My dad was stationed there around 64-65, and we lived in a relatively small house just outside the gate. Does anyone remember railroad tracks very close to the base?

@SolitaireG Hey Todd--sorry for the delay. I'm in Afghanistan and the connectivity is not that great out here. Hmmm...Mark Cathey...the truth is that I'm sure I knew him back then...the Cathey is very, very vaguely familiar. I was in 6th grade during 75/76. If he mentioned some of the teachers that he had, I would certainly recognize them. I'm still friends with my 5th grade teacher from there! His name is Ralph Nappi.

This is a great video! My father flew C-124s out of Tachi from 1960 to 1965. From the age of 6 through 10, I went to school at the annex elementary. What great memories of the movie theater, BX/snack bar and the shopper's mart. I'd love to here from anyone my age who was there then. Thanks for the memories!

4:07 One of my favorite post war pictures ever. I've never seen this picture anywhere except here. Worthy of any Luftwaffe base. There must be over 100 a/c easy in that shot. I would of loved to roam thru 'em all.

that photo was taken in 1945 by 1st Lt Mark Jocoby. Mark stated that the first thing the US army did upon arriving at Tachikawa was too take the props off all of the reamaining japanese aircraft still on the base and remove them to the north end of the runway where they were cut up for scrap steel.
