About the Program
During this program Dr. Singh explains what happiness is and how it can be attained. Short term happiness depends upon filling of the bodily needs and desires of the mind. While we are unhappy when the needs are not fulfilled, there is no limit to the desires that always remain unfulfilled. The very nature of the mind is to focus on what is missing and this leads to a futile pursuit of happiness. Wealth, power and fame can provide temporary self-gratification, but as mind gets used to the new reference state of affluence it begins to look for more and more. This leads to a wild geese chase or catching the rainbow of unfulfilled dreams. Mind is also the source of time that generates stress due to the running or elapsing time. The genuine happiness or contentment is obtained via dissolution of the mind and its thoughts/desires. The genuine happiness can be achieved via meditation and cultivating awareness of the universal reality. Performing religious rituals or following beliefs do not cultivate genuine happiness.
