@fruitycoconut capoeiradoesn´t have to get monopolized for there to be a socalled ¨true¨ federation there are many great schools all with their own systems originally capoeira didn´t use cords anyways so find a school that suits you with a friendly respectful atmosphere and you won´t be disappointed.

@prophit06 the first step in controlling someone was taking their original names and changing it to their owners name. there are some historical afro-brazilian figures that had african names like Rei Zumbi and Ganga Zumba look them up it´s very interesting they have videos on both of them here on youtube.

@prophit06 unfortunately the first thing the portuguese took from the african people were their names. Just as was done in america. it's one of the keys to robbing someone or their identity in order to better control them. although there are some historical figures in afrobrazilian history that have african names there aren't many.

@fruitycoconut allow me to answer your query, Angola's slow movements can be considered as muscle memory, in the sense where as you learn the techniques you can speed up your movements at will and adjust the speed of them as well I hope this helps good luck and train well!!
