May 27, 1983 there was a terrible explosion at Webbs Bait Farm in Benton Tennessee. It was a clandestine fireworks factory making m-80 and m-100s. How did the explosion occur? We know the ingredients. How much was being mixed? These two questions fascinate me. Can someone out there that knows please tell me. I would like to know and will keep your identity confidential. I post this in all due respect to those that died. I included my links for the stories. If someone has more please tell me.

UPDATE August 2009
Received from anonymous viewer that the composition mixture was 400 lbs.

  • they must have been mixing a few kilos of the stuff to throw a torso 100 yards and to blow windows across the street and level a building unless they had a large storege area full of them and a fire started

  • If someone tells me I'll post it.

  • they were mixing the explosive cocktail with a customised hand held drill that they had added a stirrer to.the sparks in the drill mechanics caused the explosion

  • flash powder is nasty stuff, but i didnt know it was THAT nasty.

  • I heard his mother's head was found 2 miles away.

  • Thats crazy.. Im assuming that there must have been a large 'hopper' or the like filled with flash. I say this because of the sheer power and bodies in pieces. Figures the guy who lived was the idiot behind it, like a drunk surviving a crash but killing others.

  • @RcUniverseGuy The government cant sell illegal fireworks.

  • why would they destroy the explosives? the government should have used it or sold it

  • I grew up 3 miles from there. It sounded like a war with all the fireworks going off. I didn't hear you mention the factory was in a secret basement underneath the "worm farm". This caused it to blow UP (like a shotgun pointed up). I drove by and there were big trees on the right side of the lot. The tree tops were full of clothes of the dead. There was a big hole in the ceiling of a house on the other side of the lot and I understand they later found a body in the attic of the house. Phil Lea
