@Gaines No longer have the fry's or cichlids, i now breed guppies, not as much stress and work.

Dempsey fry are so fun to watch hatch. First you see a few eggs shake, then suddenly the entire rock is teeming with life.

oceanwave20 thats the same thing i thought when mine were hatched but what mine did was put them on top and at night put them in the cave.

i built a cave from slate for my electric blue male & normal female, she layed her eggs on the roof not in the cave lol then the male started eating them ! the female was protecting them with her life ! but he wouldn't behave, what have i done wrong

@oakleys01 Keep in mind that they do relocate the fry using their mouth. If the male is in fact eating the fry, just move him to another tank or put him in a quarantine net.

i just saw like 100 fry or more in my tank some got stuck inside the gravel but alot of them are in a boat and in a group where the parents spit them out. i have crushed flakes as food for them but they dont eat.

@TheFishKeeper100 Yeah, they'll get stuck in the gravel and die unfortunately. Not sure how the crushed flakes worked out for ya, but I always heard they needed baby brine shrimp.

Hey My 2 jack dempseys are mating. what can I do to make this breeding successful. I have no caves or plants in my tank. Would I need any for the female to lay her eggs, also will I have to remove them for the babys sake or will they be good parents and not eat them?

They are very good parents, although you will end up with more survivors if you relocate the fry to a small tank and raise them on baby brine shrimp since in that large tank they might not find the food they need.
As for environment, all you need is sand and a flat surface. As you can see in the video, JDs will lay their eggs on a surface then when they hatch they'll relocate them to a hole in the sand. If you use gravel you'll end up with fry getting lost/stuck in between the large pieces.
