@pegcage Almost true. The Carter Family didn't appear on the Opry until the late 1940s. Until then, they were best known for their programs on high-powered XERF in Del Rio, Texas, then later broadcasting from Charlotte, Richmond and Knoxville. They moved to the Opry as regulars (with Chet Atkins as part of the 'family') in 1949, after a short time broadcasting from Springfield, MO.
According the John Carter Cash's book, the movie has some historical 'errors'.

@daveeeee5 Chet's career first went to a serious level when the Carter Family 'adopted' him while they were all at KNOX in Knoxville. He stayed with the Carters until they were offered a spot on the Grand Ole Opry. It's still a legend that the Carters turned down the offer, because the Opry didn't want Chet as part of the act. Ezra Carter told Opry management, "no Chet, no Carters", and they finally changed their minds.
The rest is history.

June was a member of the pioneer family of country music: The Carter Family. She was on the Grand Ole Opry as a little kid, and legend has it that Johnny Cash fell in love with her listening to her on the Opry with her folks. It was in the movie, too!
