Tanimura wrote this song when he visited China in late the 70's. Saw the remote rural landscape with nothing but only stars at night.
All stars eventually decay & vanish....In this song, he's determined to go forward & saying good bye to the stars. Very sad but also a message of hope & courage.
Despite the bitter past between China & Japan, the important thing is to overcome these difficulties & go forward together in peace.

Very unthinkable to give the highest honor to a Japanese & have him sing in this event....very beautiful song & popular throughout Asia being sung in many languages.
Tanimura has always been a tireless promoter of peace between China & Japan. With the Shanghai Expo, the tide is clearly bringing the 2 countries together.
