About 170 hours into his spin cycling marathon, about 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2008, George Hood needed to pick up the pace to ensure his speed for the hour was at least 12 mph.

Here, in the midst of an eight-minute span in which he averaged 19 mph, supporters exhort him on. He finished the hour with a 12.3-mile effort, and continued onward into the wee hours at the Fry Family YMCA in Naperville, Illinois, for the eighth straight night.
