Of course whaling activity is not too admirable today, but remember this is historical! From Capitol album, "At Large," Kingston Trio.

  • "BRILLIANT BOYS, BRILLIANT" MAYBE THE BEST VERSION IVE FOUND SO FAR !

  • @arnhand1 When I put this little vid. up here I never expected it would get attention like tthis. Thanks for stopping by to comment. Dave

  • Fine job on the video, Dave! I added it to the article on the song on CompVid101 - the only other version I had when I wrote it in '09 was a scratchy vinyl version.

  • @CompVid101 That is quite a compliment Jim. Thank you very much.

  • Funny. I had this song in my head and just now looked it up on YouTube. You must have foreseen that I'd be humming it today. :)

  • @sandinmyears1 We must have that ESP Stuff :) I was looking for it myself just recently, and it wasn't here. So I thought I would give it a try.

    Thanks for stopping by. Dave

  • @MrMatagouri Whaling not admirable! They were brave hard working men, under paid and over worked in one of the most dangerous trades of the day. If there were a bert available on a wind jammer whaler today I would sign on in a heart beat. Even though it would probably kill me. These chanties are from the days when ships were made of wood and men were made of iron.

  • With the right nose you can still smell the whale oil in Downtown New Bedford. I find it amazing that I drink in New Bedford in the establishments that once house THE roughest and toughest Whalemen the world has ever seen. We're still a salty and hard crowd to this day. Many times I walk down Union St. (New Bedford's main St. downtown) and say to myself, "Call me Ishmael."

  • @arnhand1 I agree :-)

  • @903davesharonpoky Man, sorry about that - "Going Places" was paired with "Make Way"; the one you want is "At Large/Here We Go Again" (although I definitely recommend "Make Way/Going Places" as well!) :)

  • @903davesharonpoky It was on "At Large"; back when they were releasing the "twin" disks a while back, it was on the "At Large/Going Places" disk. You can probably still find it on eBay. "At Large" was my favourite of all of their albums... mainly because when I was a kid, it's the only one of their albums that my dad had, and I played it all the time!

  • I love the Kingston Trio. I'm surprised this didn't show up on the complilation CDs. I had assume all of their songs are rereleased. Thanks for sharing!

  • Using petroleum for fuel made whale oil obsolete and saved the whales. Today petroleum gets a bad rap. Tomorrw they will find out windmills kill birds.
