I find this song difficult too, the up/down strokes are more tricky than lots of other songs I do. You might want to look at DRockT123 cover, it is a very good. This is the one I use to train my ear and get the beat inside my head. I really like american pie, you might want to give it a shot too. Keep playing.

this is terrible. for a start, the guitar isn't even in tune. why bother with all the "ummm, I never sang this before" bullshit? why not just not post it on the internet? you have no feel for the song and the whole thing is a massive insult to Steve Earle and to all music in general.

and your singing is not "sleasy", it's awful.
