This application demonstrates how Adobe Flash 11 3D capabilities and the Minko ( http://aerys.in/minko ) framework make it possible to easily create rich and engaging 3D data visualization:
- latitude / longitude data spikes
- color gradients, based on data value or type
- mouse wheel to zoom
- geolocalize any 3D content on a 3D globe
- more than 20 000 data points are displayed and geolocalized on this 3D globe (up to more than 1 million data points)
- data represents Google search volumes per language
- using Qark ( http://github.com/aerys/qark ) to efficiently store and load compressed binary data
- custom vertex and fragment shaders for the earth and atmosphere effects
This application is a port of the Google Globe Chrome experiment available here: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/globe
