originally,Gene Roddenberry was hoping to get the monday night 7:30 time slot for Star Treks 3rd season, but NBC gave that to Rowan & Martin's Laugh In and instead gave Star Trek the friday night 10:00 "kiss of death" time slot and the rest is history. near the end of the 3rd season NBC moved Star Trek to tuesdays at 8:30 but by then the damage had been done and it was too little to late to save it.

@jctheradiodude the station now carries Fox - which did consider, but then passed on, airing TNG, but would air the 7th Star Trek movie (Generations) later on

It's said that the move to Friday or Saturday nites is the kiss of death for a show. Cuz nobody would watch tv on what are usually considered 'party' nites.
-
@Xwingpilot it got moved to friday because after gene rddenberry left the show producers kind of lost hope.
also why season 3 ended up not being as good as 1 or 2

Loving the low-key lighting on the set. Wish they did more of that in TOS!
-
Im om season 2 now, im a young one compared to when it was out, 23 to be exact and boy, i do love this show, it has charm, it has passion. Its so fun:)
-
Good Lord that was dreadful.
-
@GreekRoyalty Well, fortunately Fred Freiberger isn't around to kill programs anymore.
-
it was on monday for the 3rd season, but it was against Laugh-in - which was hip for the time. now, i am not sure is laugh-in was on NBC and it replaced ST
or if it was against it on another network and NBC knew it would lose that time slot (neilsen ratings were in effect then too and very strong)

Full Color, man! Sweet!
Friday night, where TV shows go to die.

I think its original showing during season 3 was supposed to be Mondays at like 8:00 or something. Then for some reason they just all of a sudden got booted or something. May have been the end of the series but not the end of the saga that's for sure. Long live a cultural phenomena!
