Super 8 - "The Ascension" (Full Trailer Music)

Since this piece of the musical score wasn't actually used in the whole film, I made a slideshow of stills and screencaps from the trailer to go along with it.

"The Ascension" is actually a track from the score by James Horner for Cocoon (1985), directed by Ron Howard.

For some reason or other, Paramount decided to use this music for Super 8's trailer instead of a piece from the film's actual score composed by Michael Giacchino.

As I hope you'll be able to see (and hear), Paramount has good taste in musical scores.

I love James Horner's music, and was surprised when I heard the music from Cocoon playing for the Super 8 DVD trailers rather than Michael Giacchino's actual music from the movie proper. I shouldn't have been surprised though, considering how many times David Arnold's music from Stargate has been used for movie trailers in general.

This is the exact song that was played at the beginning of Cocoon (1985).

The beginning of the theme is best. The rest of the score sound likes a mixture of the Star Wars theme with a dash of E.T.
