@wizsupreme777 You know that's right! Janis always paid tribute to Tina Turner, Etta, Aretha, Bessie, Sarah no last names needed and the original VOCALIST of this song, Erma Franklin! Janis was real and down to earth and she did not try to re-write history! Mary did a damn good job with this song. She put her touch on it and she completely made it her own song! That is a true singer! Some of the comments are unfair and they should not compare any of the vocalists. They are all great!

Wow...reading some of the comments left on here and its crazy....I think mary did a very good job..is it better than jj's version...not at all, is better than melissa etheridge's version or pinks...no its not, but its coming from someone who normally doesn't sing classic rock, so to be completely out of her genre, she kicked ass...get over yourself people...research Ms. Joplin cause she herself sited Bessie, Etta, Aretha and many more black women as influences....Peace

i agree that j joplin's version is the absolute classic - but i also think that mjb's version creates a branch to the sound and feel of this song in a way that will allow the song to transcend time and the mere words of critics. music lovers well into the 23rd century will be bangin this one ! preferably in the morning hours .. with a cup of coffee.
