Taken in San Ignacio Lagoon off the west coast of Baja, Mexico, on a whale-watching trip sponsored by Ecology Project International (EPI). The lagoon is one of the primary breeding sites for gray whales and is a World Heritage Site. High school students from Pensylvania actually got to touch the whales during our 3-day tour through Baja Expeditions... at times the mothers would even push their babies up towards the boats (or pangas) for pets. Our guides told us splashing our hands in the water attracts them to the boats. What an amazing experience!
