This is really creative. I'm a little shocked you didn't get in. You'd think they'd at least want your house for planning schemes.

He hunts people like foxes, enjoys torture, his dogs are depraved... etc. I think he's plenty evil, he's just also terribly lonely. (Possibly because he's so evil to everyone he sees as a lesser creature.) I think he's rather charming-- I don't remember the last Earl I saw used as a villain that wasn't a period piece.
