"Long ago, Mommy used to be Daddy" is the name of this series. It's the story of Kohtani Hitomi (F) -- born Kohtani Hitoshi (M) -- and her two sons, Shun and Ryo. The six-episode series is an entertaining drama which is meant to provide some insight into the daily struggles which sex reassignment surgery patients such as Hitomi have to endure in a society which doesn't fully understand the concept of being born a woman in a man's body and how this is different from being born a gay man. This isn't even just a Japanese issue -- it's just as relevant in the United States and in much of the developed and developing world.

This is just a small sample from Episode 1. No copyright infringement is intended. The purpose in uploading this small segment of the episode is to generate interest in the program, particularly amongst international fans of Japanese television who may not normally have access to programming of this nature in their home countries.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

I saw an advertisement for this drama in the International Asahi Shimbun and was intrigued. I sadly have no access to Japanese television where I am now, so I was worried I wouldn't be able to see any of it! I'm also glad something like this is playing on Japanese TV; I hope it'll raise awareness of LGBT issues -- and the differences between L, G, B, and T people. また、有難うございます!
