Selena shown her flashlight through the trees, only the tall contours visible in the nightfall. A dry lump ran down Selena's throat as she swallowed hardly, her heart racing a million miles an hour. She caught her breath and looked through the trees one more time, trying to find the luminous outline, but there was nothing. The searing pain shot through her back when she slightly rolled over, trying to get on her feet. A silent whimper escaped Selena's lips as she rolled back to her previous position. She couldn't move at all without feeling the pain all through her broken and beaten up body and for the first time in her life, she thought she was going to die on this cold, unwelcoming ground in the middle of the deep forest. She prayed in her heart that someone would find her; but it wasn't likely. It only took a few moments for the tears to start pouring out of Selena's eyes and with every ounce in her, she regretted leaving her house like that, and leaving her family like that. Most of all, she chastised herself for letting her anger take over her.

"Help......" Selena whimpered weakly; her voice so quiet, she could hardly hear herself. In the back of her mind, she knew it was hopeless. No one would be able to find her until morning. As more tears stained her cheeks, she brought her arms around her head as she cried herself to sleep, unknown if she'd wake up the next morning.



"Selena!!" The cries of Tanner made Selena's eyes bat open. The blurry figure in front of her was running towards her, the familiar face coming clearly to her as she lifted her head up. She blinked in the sunlight that was above her head. The eyes she had wandered across the frost bitten ground around her. The wails of her name came closer and closer and she soon felt the presence of Tanner by her.

"Selena!! Are you okay?" Tanner's hand lifted up and gently lay on her side before she screeched in pain. Tanner's hand retracted back.

"My wrist....back....." She moaned. The pain all over shot through like a knife. Only a moment later, two giant arms were under Selena and picking her up, carrying her somewhere Selena had no knowledge of. When Selena looked up and saw her dad, tear drops left her eyes. "I'm sorry Dad." She whispered. Her dad only nodded, letting her know that it was all going to be all right.

Her parents took her to the hospital that was down in the nearest town. They sat for an excruciating hour and a half before getting an available doctor. An hour or so later, Selena and her family left the hospital with Selena's arm in a sling, 7 stitches on her forehead, and numerous bruises on her back. The entire car ride home was silent as Selena rested her head against the window, staring blankly out. The only thing she couldn't stop thinking about besides the pain residing in her body was that figure; the one that saved her. It was hard to admit, but she was haunted by it and wanted to find that person.

The second the family pulled into the driveway of their summer getaway, Selena opened the car door and ran out towards the background. She skidded to a stop when she heard her mother's voice call to her. "Lena, where are you going?"

Selena bit her bottom lip before sighing and taking a few steps towards her family. "I was going to...um..go see if I could find Charlee...." Selena cooly and slightly lied. Yes, she wanted to find Charlee, but she was more interested in the mysterious figure.

"Hun..." Her mother started before walking towards her and gently grabbing her daughter's elbow. "don't go back into the woods for a while. I want you to stay here."

With a slight tug, Selena's footsteps were soon following her mother's into the safety of the house.

The next three days were a blur. Selena spent the hours of the day either lounging on the couch with Tanner by her side or off in a deep sleep. The pain throughout her body was still felt, but subsided due to the pain killers she had every day. "Baby girl, we're going to head down into town for a few hours. We'll be back later." And with that, her parents left. Not long after, Selena found herself throwing her shoes on and running out the back door, in hopes to find the mysterious figure that saved her.
