The song title is "AT A GEORGIA CAMP MEETING," and was written by Kerry Mills, a noted early cakewalk composer.

The Cakewalk Contest at the Ragtime Ball was a delightful event for all of the dancers and audience, and the music provided by the Turpintyme Ragsters was made to order!

We had a BLAST!

Check out the websites above for info and CD's.

The Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival is held in Sedalia, Missouri near the 1st of June every year.

I WISH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN THERE!
See ya next year?

  • Oddly, I find this... Actually a little disturbing. And not the dancing, I mean, I think it's a blast when you're smashed... But you seem to actually take it serious. I can see how it's funny... But serious or something? Please.

  • I am happy that you found it disturbing, as I had intended this video to be as disturbing as possible. But, oddly enough, I feel inadequate in my ability to convince many people that it is disturbing. It seems you're the only one with the ability to discern the disturbability of this video, music & people. You are to be commended, maybe even worshiped for your special talent to analyze stuff like this. Amazing! Maybe you could put your signature on a piece of paper & toss it in the sea for me.

  • Ahhh, when music was hot and life was a little simpler, LOVE that song. In the olden days they would dance around a table with a cake on it and usually the couple that could turn the corners the fanciest would as they say, "take the cake"

  • This just looks like something fun to do. Perhaps some of the reason cake walks were popular was just that it was a fun thing to do, and perhaps the "racial" aspect of it made it easier for the white folk to do, since they weren't having to be so deadly serious about it.

At any rate, I find I dance better when I've had some beer. It's a good way to relax the jitters I feel when I dance. I think the imitation aspect here does about the same.

  • On the contrary, yes they do.

Most of these folks are very well informed about the origins of the cakewalk, but it makes no difference as it is just another dance that is fun to do regardless of ones racial origins.

  • I was looking online to get more information on Cakewalks. This is a dance form of the African Diaspora that HAS to be preserved. People of African descent, we need to know it's history from slavery to being a social dance like the above video and children's dances.

  • haha

looks like so much fun :D

  • looks like alot of fun..
