  • Perhaps this is a little too fast for a Rumba, but it's Arthur Benjamin's interpretation. He does indicate "Tempo giusto-alla Rumba" with a performance duration of 1 1/2 minutes. Me personally, I prefer it just a touch slower, and I think the secret is to keep it pianissimo and as light as possible from start to finish. It's a fun piece, a little gem really. And quite challenging too! Nice performance here.

  • YouTube is very fortunate to have members like you. I appreciate your very excellent and constructive comments. Every performance is different and your suggestions give food for thought. Thanks!!

  • I think this is played too fast. This is a rhumba!

  • There was a discussion about this with YouTuber 4341305. Take a look.

  • too fast....it´s a rumba!

  • This is a piano transcription of a rumba; there are several styles. It might be a little fast, but that is what happens in performance. Sometimes, it adds to the excitement and spirit of the occasion. Every time we play it, the rendition is slightly different - there is such a thing as tempo and character tolerance. Thanks for your comment.

  • oh wow!! im playing this song for mmta!

*(for those who dont know what mmta is it is the minnesota music teachers association and it has a duet concert)*

  • oh my! i've been working on this piece for a while (im doing the part the male is in this video) and his fingers are so fast. i'll never be able to pull this piece off in 1:30 mins.

  • Thanks for your post - Im going to be learning this on piano too

  • It is always a tricky balance to achieve the right relationship between composer indications, individual interpretations and actual live performances. I am constantly experimenting with this aspect. When this piece is performed again, I will approach it differently because my musical perspective will have changed; my views are always evolving.

  • But hey: this video´s performance is great!!
