The anti-dictatorship wave in Middle East and North Africa continues to grow.
Recently, Libyan dictator Gadhafi mimicked the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre and brutally killed protesters.
This met with strong condemnation and sanctions from the international ommunity.
Libyan high-ranking officials, military and police officers and diplomats in foreign countries defected in succession.
Uprisings occurred in the 2nd and 3rd largest Libyan cities.Gadhafi's dying regime is on the verge of collapsing.
The democratic movements in Tunisia and Egypt have led to large-scale peaceful protests throughout Libya.
Its despot Gadhafi desperately held on to his power by ordering warplanes to continuously bomb the Libyan capital Tripoli on Feb. 21 and 22.Tanks and mercenaries fired at protesters and ambulances.
International Federation of Human Rights said,at least 700 people were killed and 1400 went missing. Italian foreign minister said on Feb. 23 that over 1000 died.
President Obama condemned Gadhafi's atrocities on Feb. 23 for the first time:
"The suffering and bloodshed is outrageous and it is unacceptable. So are threats and orders to shoot peaceful protesters and further punish the people of Libya. These actions violate international norms and every standard of common decency. This violence must stop."
Obama said, the Libyan government must take full responsibilities for its actions. The U.S. is considering bilateral or multilateral sanctions.
EU condemned Gadhafi's atrocities and decided to implement sanctions against Libya (e.g. freezing assets).
France and Germany urged EU to suspend its economic relationship with Libya. German Chancellor Merkel said Gadhafi has declared war on the Libyan people.
UN Security Council urged Gadhafi to end the violence. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay called for an investigation of the crackdown. Such violence may constitute "crimes against humanity."
Peru was the first to sever diplomatic ties with Libya. The Arab League has suspended Libya's membership.
In his speech at Kuwait's parliament on Feb. 22,British PM Cameron condemned the violent crackdown. He admitted that in the name of stability, UK's support to authoritarian regimes is wrong.
Cameron: "For decades, some have argued that stability required highly controlling regimes and that reform and openness would put stability at risk.
As recent events have confirmed, denying people their basic rights does not preserve stability. In fact, it does the reverse."
The Libyan people's protests are continuously growing.Calls for Gadhafi to step down are gaining momentum. His senior officials and the regime's previous No. 2
Interior Minister Abdel Fattah Younes al Abidi defected.Gaddafi's son Saif's senior assistant Youssef Sawani also resigned and joined the protesters.
Libya's military also started to oppose Gadhafi. The army in Eastern Libya have defected. Its commander Major General Suleiman Mahmoud said: Gadhafi is nothing but a tyrant. He pointed out that the argument that Gaddafi's death would plunge Libya into a civil war is a propaganda.
Currently, the opposition and rebel troops occupied Libya's eastern half, including 2nd largest city Benghazi. They have set up a local interim government.
On Feb. 23, the 3rd largest city Misurata became the 1st major western city controlled by the opposition. Demonstrations occurred in western and southern cities.Several cities in Libya have been uprising, similar to China's evolution of 1911, when many provinces and cities were uprising and declared independence.
More and more Libyan ambassadors in foreign posts resign in protest of the bloody crackdown on protesters. Libyan consulate in Egypt flew flags at half-mast.
Libyan ambassadors to the U.S. and officials at UN all urge Gadhafi to step down to avoid more bloodshed.
On Feb. 22, in a televised speech, Gadhafi used CCP's Tiananmen Massacre as an example, aggressively defending his violent crackdown.
Tiananmen movement participant Shao Jiang: Gadhafi was looking for an excuse for his suppression. Tiananmen crackdown model had huge repercussions. The whole world views it as very negative. Authorities brutally suppressed peaceful demonstrators. Among all the dictators and totalitarian regimes, I think the Chinese government is the worst.
While strictly controlling online public opinion,CCP's official media continue to report distorted facts, going all out to defend Gadhafi's image. They described the protesters as terrorists, and blocked the truth about the bloody crackdown.
Besides the U.S. and Europe, even its perceived allies Iran and Hamas also condemned Libya's crackdown. However, on CCP's foreign affairs press conference
held on Feb. 24, its spokesperson Ma Chaoxu refused again to condemn Libya's use of force.
