SEVEN ARTS, ONE IMELDA AT CCP

Venue : CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater)
Time : 8:00 pm
Date : Sep 11 2009

A special production that pays tribute to Former First Lady Imelda Marcos, as Founding Chair of the CCP which she envisioned as the "repository of the Filipino soul." To be directed by theater thespian Alex Cortez.

On September 11, 2009, a gala tribute to the Founding Chairperson of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, will be held at the CCPs Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) at 8:00 p.m.

Dubbed as Seven Arts, One Imelda, the invitational gala event extols the seven arts through signature pieces created during the period of Imeldas patronage. Simple and classic, the gala will highlight the virtuosity of the Filipino artists.

Featured artists include: international pianist Cecile Licad, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja, flutist Antonio Maigue, tenor Jonathan Velasco, violinists Coke Bolipata and Joseph Esmilla; sopranos Rachelle Gerodias, Camille Lopez, Aileen Espinosa Cura, and Clarissa Ocampo; ballet dancers Candice and Carissa Adea, and well acclaimed concert pianist Dean Raul Sunico.

It will also feature CCP resident companies- Ballet Philippines, Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, together with the MADz et al choirs and a one hundred voice childrens choir.

  • It was really tragic that all the attempts of former First Lady Imelda Marcos to showcase Philippine arts and culture were set aside because of politics.

Everything Imelda did for the Filipinos Cory Aquino either abandoned or wanted to destroy. She did not want Imelda to be remembered for all the good things she did for the Philippines.
