English:
In this 1994 BBC adaptation of George Eliot's novel, altruism, social reform, and romantic love struggle to survive against snobbery, economic oppression, and self-indulgence. Set in the fictional town of Middlemarch in the 1830s, the film begins when Dr. Tertius Lydgate (Douglas Hodge) arrives in the community to begin a medical practice. Because of his knowledge of the latest medical techniques and his desire to do humanitarian work and pioneering laboratory research, Lydgate becomes the ideal candidate for the pro bono position of superintendent of a new Middlemarch hospital.
REPARTO: Rufus Sewell, Jonathan Firth, Juliet Aubrey, Robert Hardy, Peter Jeffrey, Caroline Harker

  • 6:53 wow that actually looks like an authentic portrait.

its funny how they did faces back then. they all looked so similar - big eyes wide apart. straight nose bridge to the forehead. its almost like they painted people the way they should have looked, like an old fashioned photoshop.

because obviously there was the idea of 'the perfect face' even if its not the same today.

  • @lolly100 I second that.

  • The uncle is sweet!

  • urgh, Casaubon makes my skin crawl!
