  • how can tell whether to "l" or not in "talk"?and in a lot of words ,that happens.

  • Right. There is no rule that you can memorize that tells you the L is silent in 'talk': You have to learn the pronunciation of words by being an active listener. If you are ever not sure, websites like dictionary . com give the IPA transcription of words.
