Rodney - Big Fingers Can Pick Rolls: Bile Them Cabbage Down

My banjo student, Rodney, does a great job playing banjo and has some of the biggest fingers I've ever seen. This video will hopefully inspire others that think their fingers are too big to play that they actually can play! At my request, Rodney is demonstrating how several of the major banjo rolls can be practiced in the song "Bile Them Cabbage." This is such a good song for beginning banjo players. It is a great opportunity to learn how to play simple variations to a song, and also how to go seamlessly from one roll to another. (The Bluegrass Shack - New Athens, IL)

I too have huge fingers and Im having a terrible time fretting. Many chords I cant nail even once clearly so the keep practicing advice seems a bit pointless. Any advice?

@TheDogLearner It could also be that you need to have the nut adjusted on your banjo. Many of the inexpensive Asian banjos have the strings a little closer together at the nut end. Sometimes there is room to space out the strings a little bit more and you can just have a new nut put on the banjo. As far as practicing, it's a matter of how and where you fret. If you can get it once, you can get it again. If you really want it, don't give up!
