The choir of Winchester Cathedral sing In Paradisum from Gabriel Faure's Requiem. The video is taken from a televison broadcast of 1980 so the quality of the video is not brilliant.
Wow! 1980's video quality be d@mned. This is a truly transcendent piece of music and performance. For those of you who may have been weened upon the more banal examples of popular culture note the absence of sampling. No appropriation of anothers work, no overwhelming thumpthumpthump of the sub-woofer or superficial urban angst.
This what one gets when work, craft and expression intersect.
Should mention that this BBC production carried marvellous commentary introducing this placidly beautiful work and between each section, delivered so tastefully by the late John Gielgud. It added greatly to the excellence of the production -- without in any way detroying the continuity of this superb performance. Too bad the entire performance -- including the commentary -- isn't available on youtube.
Outstanding, of course, but isn't it a little too slow, anyway ?

Angelic, inspiring, and jubilating. Faure would truly be pleased.

IN PARADISUM
In paradisum deducant te Angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem.
Chorus Angelorum te suscipiant, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam habeas requiem.
